Overview

The Count tool is used to track the number of items on your drawings.

It’s ideal for elements such as:

  • Doors and windows

  • Electrical fixtures (outlets, lights)

  • Plumbing fixtures

  • Equipment or symbols

  • Any repeated items

How it works

The Count tool offers three methods:

Manual

  • Click each item on the drawing

  • Each click = 1 count

Symbol Match

  • Select a symbol

  • TakeCost automatically finds and counts all matching symbols

Match Text

  • Enter a label (e.g., D1, WH, EX)

  • TakeCost finds and counts matching text across the drawing

📌 Counts update automatically as items are added

When should I use the Count tool?

Use the Count tool when measuring anything that is quantity-based (not length or area), such as:

  • Fixtures

  • Equipment

  • Repeated symbols

  • Labeled items

Pro Tip

Use Symbol Match or Match Text to save time on large drawings with repeated items.
